Managing tabs

Block is just an empty container until you begin adding tabs to it. Tabs define how you will store your information. They are the fundamental structural component inside a Block, just like a table in a database. As a Builder, you will build the tab first, then build the fields that will be tracked on that specific tab.

Before you begin adding tabs to your block, it's important to plan ahead. Think through how you will structure the information in your Blocks so that you build the right tabs. Write your plan down on paper, or draw it on a whiteboard. Develop use cases to help flesh out your requirements.

Builders can only add as many tabs inside a block as are supported by the Zone plan.

Adding a new tab

You must be a Builder to see the add tab option. Builders will navigate inside a Block and then follow the steps outlined below:

Click + Add tab from the left navigation bar.

The tab creation modal appears.

Select how you'd like to create your tab:

FROM SCRATCH: Use this option if you want to start with a blank canvas for specifying the data you want to capture in the tab.

On click, the tab properties modal will appear; continue to the next step.

 

FROM A CSV FILE: Use this option to select a file that will be used to create your tab.

Drag a file here or click to select a file from your desktop that is a csv (UTF-8 format).

The tab properties modal will appear; continue to the next step.

 

FROM A TEMPLATE

Select a preformatted template that will create your tab and all settings.

If you choose this option, follow any prompts and you are done creating your tab at this step; you do not need to continue to the next step.

From the tab properties modal, enter the tab properties and click save.

 

 

 

Tab properties

You must be a Builder to manage tab properties. The table below explains the behavior of the options available in the tab properties which are available from the tab properties modal.

Property Description Visual
Name

Enter the name of the tab as you would like it to appear in the left bar navigation.

This name represents a collective reference to all the records (note the plural reference) that will be in this tab.

Record Name

Enter a value that best represents a single record value (note the singular reference) of the items that will be in this tab.

This value will be used when looking at the details page of any specific record in the tab.

Icon

Search for or scroll through and select an icon that best represents the information you will be keeping in this tab.

Record Identifier

Select the fields in your tab, as well as any precursor and separators that will ultimately identify a specific record in the tab.

When first creating this tab, you can leave the default value provided and come back later to edit this.

System ID checkbox

If you'd like users to see the system ID in the first column of the record when in spreadsheet mode, click the Show the system ID checkbox. Otherwise, a spyglass icon 🔎 will appear instead. In either case, clicking this column will launch the details page for a record.

User access security toggle

Toggle on the user access security area to set security access of this tab for users according to their role in the Block.

Editing a tab's properties once it is created

You must be a Builder to edit a tab. Builders can follow the steps outlined below to modify the properties of a tab.

Hover over the tab you wish to edit, and from the dropdown select Edit tab properties.

The tab properties modal appears.

From the tab properties modal, enter the tab properties and click Save.

 

 

 

Modifying tab placement

You must be a Builder to modify a tab's placement order inside the Block. Builders can do this to arrange tabs in the most intuitive sequence for users by following the steps below:

Hover over the tab you wish to edit, and from the dropdown select either Move tab up or Move tab down

The tab will move up or down one placement from its current position in the Block.

 

 

 

🔔 The first 5 tabs in a Block will appear to users when they first enter the Block. All other Tabs will be available using the More option. The more option only appears if more than 5 Tabs are available to the user:

 

Duplicating a tab

You must be a Builder to duplicate a tab and can choose what about the tab will be duplicated by completing the steps outlined below:

Hover over the tab you wish to edit, and from the dropdown select Duplicate tab.

The duplicate tab modal appears.

2 Specify the name and what content should be duplicated.
Tab name The name of the tab, by default it's the current name of the tab with the word copy but you can edit this.
Include data Toggle on the data with the action, otherwise, leave off to only copy the fields and their properties.
Include bookmarks If you want the bookmarks of the current tab copied, toggle this on.
Include web forms If you want any web forms of the current tab copied, toggle this on.

When you are ready, click Duplicate tab.

 

The duplicated tab will appear in the Block.

 

🔔 If you want one or more tabs duplicated to an entirely new Block, use the Duplicate Block option instead.

🔔 If is not possible to duplicate a tab into a different existing Block.

 

 

Deleting a tab

If a tab has become obsolete it can be deleted. Only Builders can take this action and precaution is needed to ensure you are not wiping away important data. If truly sure that a Block should be deleted, follow the steps outlined below.

Hover over the tab you wish to edit, and from the dropdown select Delete tab.

The delete tab confirmation prompt appears.

Read the delete tab confirmation prompt that explains that this action will abolish the data in this tab and follow the instructions. Click OK when you are ready.

 

🔔 This action is irreversible.
